Once Upon a Time 2x18 Sneak Peek #2 “Selfless, Brave and True”
I’m gonna be very pissed if Mary Margaret reacting like a sane, normal human being is going to be deemed being “Dark Snow”.
What Gepetto did was awful (I love the character, I get why he did it, but let’s not begin making apologies for him) even though it was out of fatherly love. Snow has EVERY RIGHT to at least REACT at first the way she did. Emma going all “But Snow, don’t be mad, he apologized!” is completely and utterly ridiculous.
I can see how her reaction would be “this isn’t me” or “I didn’t do that”. Snow couldn’t even execute Regina when she should have. As her old self, Snow wouldn’t have hit Gepetto ever, even though it’s completely understandable here. Snow doesn’t do things like kill Cora or strike out in anger.
I think everyone (characters in the show and fans) have held Snow to this high standard to the point where she is no longer a person, but an ideal of a person. Now that she is behaving as a person and not the ideal, people are upset. I’d really like to see this become a “growing up” kind of story for her where she (and everyone else) have to accept that while the the ideal is nice, it isn’t practical. However, I fear that they’ll just go with the “nope, she’s doing evil stuff now” route, which is disappointing.
I’m totally with you but I’m surprised that this time it’s Emma the one to call Snow out on her “bad behaviour”. Emma has been shown to be a flawed human being that totally gets grey morality and being angry over things and met Snow as the flawed Mary Margaret. For me Emma’s reaction is way OOC.
I really hope this ends up being a “growing up from childhood ideas of good and wrong” and not the expected “Snow is being evil” route. Fingers crossed…
I agree with everything said above. I believe Snow really had every right to react the way she did. I mean she just found out that there was a possibility that she could have watched her daughter grow up, and had been able to keep her safe and actually be a mother. Yes old Snow may not have reacted the way she did, but that doesn’t necessarily make this version of her ‘Evil.’ It may be making her into an actual real person.

I have a real problem with the Regina fans and/or Snow haters who don’t approve of Snow’s remorse here because “she’s thinking of herself.” I don’t understand what is so wrong with Snow realizing that she’s not being true to herself, to her morals that she lives by. By saying “This isn’t me” she isn’t denying that it’s wrong or that it will hurt Regina in a horrible way, she’s admitting that despite the common sense of killing a woman who is out to kill her family/has already killed part of her family, her actions are conflicting with her conscience and the morals instilled within her, and because of that, she knows it’s wrong. And they’re good morals too: Not killing, not hurting others, giving everyone a second chance. What is wrong with Snow holding herself to those standards?
What Snow did was absolutely horrible, but she did realize it was wrong and she did try to stop it. There is nothing insincere about knowing what you stand for, and recognizing when you’ve failed to stand for it.
(In addition, at least Snow admitted she was wrong at all. Has Regina ever admitted that all her murder/rape/manipulation was wrong? Not that I can remember.)
